Lesson 1          Wicca Wisdom

As you may have surmised by now, witches are all around you.   Why can’t you find them?  They tend to be secretive.  First and foremost, you must realize that your quest to becoming a witch is not to be a power trip.  It is a learning process that will permit you to connect with the forces of nature and to connect with a nurturing deity.  In doing this you will also discover yourself.

Wicca is the religion practiced by many witches, but you can practice Wicca and never be a witch.  That would be like being a priest and never having a congregation J  I will use the terms Wicca and Witch though out these lessons – both will have the same definition.

Do witches have supernatural abilities?  No!  We are just in tune with our surroundings.  If a witch wants a cup of coffee, we have to get up and make it.  We just can wiggle our nose and it will appear.  The hardest thing we will have to do is separate what we have learned from TV, Radio and the movies into what is real.

A keyword for the new witch is RESPONSIBILITY.  A witch takes full responsibility for their actions.  We do not blame some unknown force (the Devil) for negative acts we do.  Many Wiccans believe that their energies come for the Goddess and God.  This is a part of my belief.   We all have some inborn abilities, but it will take the deity to enhance them and make us what we are.

The abilities you have are natural and inborn, as I have said.  Do not fear them.  Your powers are yours and you will learn how to control them.  You will learn to use your powers to help others, do not feel embarrassed that you have such abilities and your best friend does not.  They just don’t use them.  You may want to reed a book, but the room is dim; you will turn on a light.  Another person may just opt to sit in the dark.  Both of you have the same ability to turn on the light, but only one will take the initiative.

What does a Witch look like?  What does a Christian look like?  What does a Jew look like?  Go look in the mirror for your answer.  We do not have any making on or bodies that flash like neon sings declaring us a witch.  We do not radiate a visible aura about us.  Let’s face it, unless you make up a sigh saying “I AM A WITCH” no one will know.  Witches are not ugly green hags, with warts – as a matter of fact most of the witches I know are downright beautiful.

Now here’s the one I like.  Are you a “Good Witch” or a “Bad Witch?”  This usually elicits this response from me: Are you a “Good Christian” or a “Bad Christian.”  Once again the good/bad stereotype is from books, movies and religious institutions.

Let’s face it, witches are human, and as humans we can be either good or bad.  For the most part a Wiccan Witch makes all efforts to subdue all negativism in their life.  We do not strike out to get even with people.  We do not that we should benefit from another’s suffering.  We will deal with negative energies, but in such a manner as to ground them and not use them for evil.  An example would be the jerk on the road that just cut you off.  You goal of the moment – rear end him, get even.  But in actuality you take a deep breath and let the incident pass.  You have grounded your negativism.

Since Wiccan witches take responsibility for their actions, they know that in some way those actions will be returned to them.  We have, what we call, the law of three.  What we do will come back to us three fold – be it good or evil.

If you are stuck in a negative situation – accept it.  The analyze it and ask yourself, what I am to learn from this?  Remember, a Wiccan witch works for the good of all.

How can I tell if I meet a witch?  For one thing, don’t look for a double parked broom stick.  If the wear jewelry, that may be a hint.  A pentacle worn around the neck or on a ring.  May of us wear jewelry with the Celtic knot on it.  You can also tell by the way the person talks or carries them self.  If you are not sure – it is really impolite to ask, so don’t.  Try a few innuendos, but be very tactful.

Witches do Magick, not magic.  Both use the same root, but one signifies a stage show or entertainment.  The other may include healing, spells, harnessing of psychic forces or even divination.

BIG FINALE

Basically witches try to live in harmony with nature.

Wiccans believe in the duality of the ALL.  The All having both female and male characteristics.

You don’t have to practice magick to be Wiccan.

Wiccans believe in the morals that are common to mast faiths.

We are out on the earth to learn.

We believe in reincarnation.  We will be reborn until such a time that all our lessons have been learned.

We believe in positive Karma.

Wiccans believe in God – we hold the pure energy of the God and Goddess most high.

Witches DO NOT believe in Satan!
