No More Burning

People left the Old World and came to America so that they may practice their religion.  America was free to all.  To all, that is, except the Wiccan Witch.  These people were the “original” doctors, healing those that requested by using herbs and incantations.  Doctors at that time were still drilling holes into ones head to release the “evil spirits.”   The patient mortality rate amongst the Witches patients was much lower than under those treated by a “Doctor.”

The reward!  Doctors were revered.  Witches were sought out and burned.   Fine, we can write this off by saying that these were stupid people.  These were the olden days.  Let us take a leap of hundreds of years to present time.

The year is 2002, man has become enlightened.  The US Supreme Court has declared the Wiccan Religion valid.  How nice of them to approve one of the worlds older religions, a religion that predates Judaism.  This is a time when those who practice the Wiccan religion, and those of the mundane world can live together.  Sure they can, as long as we Wiccans do not let them know our religion. 

The irony, these same people that will condemn a Witch can be heard saying: “I pray it does not rain this weekend.”  By the Gods, these anti-witches are making an effort to cast.  Do you think we should call them out as a “Witch.” 

We are now dealing with modern, intellectual man, or so we are told.  Let’s see how the Wiccan Religion stacks up against the others.

The list can continue on for many pages, but I believe my point has been made.  In Wiccan, the concept of Hell does not exist.  This is a Christian domain.  This does not impress me that a people must create such a horrid place to attempt to cajole their people into being good.  Most non-Wiccan have no idea where this “Hell” came from.  In the days of the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah there was behind them a portion of land.  This land was always ablaze, and the smell of brimstone was in the air.  The residents of the twin cities knew this area as Ghana (Hell).  What was Gahanna?  It was the city dump.  The fires burning were not for the condemned, but to dispose of the garbage from the two cities.  Every time I am told I am going to Hell, I ask myself, “Why do they want me to go to the dump.”

The Devil – another boogieman created to frighten young children.  This was also a way of belittling of the Wiccan Gods.  Many of the male aspect Gods have horns.  Horns were the sign of authority.  The Devil did not exist until the creation of Christianity.

I find it hard to believe that the God if the Jews, Christians and Islamic people is such a vindictive God.  A God that demands human sacrifice if you do not strictly follow his laws.  Look at Christianity and see the murder and killing performed in the name of their God.  Look at the Crusades, convert to Christianity or die.  If their Christ was such a pacifist I do not believe that he gave the convert or die order. 

If one takes the time and looks at Christianity they will see that it is based solely on the Pagan religion of the day.  The Cardinals wear hats to honor the Fish God, the aura behind Christ and Mary is of Pagan origin.  Some pictured show a trident behind the Christ child, this was to honour Neptune.  Look at the Wheel of the Year and see how many of our holidays the Church has usurped.

It is time for the Pagan / Wiccan community to come out of the closet and let the world know we exist.  That we are a viable part of society – its teachers, healers, laborers, doctors, lawyers, office workers, etc.  We are no different than any one else.  It is time to come out of the dark ages.
